Dr. Kim S. Ellis is a native of Rockford, Illinois. She has taught the clarinet and saxophone studios at Lamar University and has been principal clarinetist with the Symphony of Southeast Texas since 1990. In addition to these responsibilities, Dr. Ellis is an Artist/Clinician for Buffet-Crampon Clarinets and Rico International, Inc. (Grand Concert Reeds)

Currently, she is working on a CD with Centaur Records, Inc. This recording will feature Italian works for clarinet and piano. Dr. Ellis has completed an educational project with Richard Stoltzman and MMC Recordings. She has also performed with the C.D. Duo, Woodlands Symphony, Opera Columbus, Columbus Light Opera, Coventry Trio, and Keith Brion's New Sousa Band. She is member of various Lamar University Faculty Chamber Ensembles. Throughout the school year, she performs at public schools for Young Audiences, Inc., Lamar University and  for Buffet Clarinets and Rico International, Inc.

Dr. Ellis is an active performer and clinician at conventions and clinics throughout the United States including: Texas Music Educators Association, International Clarinet Association, Texas Bandmasters Association, Festival of Texas Composers, Oklahoma Clarinet Symposium, College Music Society-South Chapter, Sarasota Music Festival, and the University of New Hampshire Chamber Music Festival.

While at the University, Dr. Ellis has received honors including the Lamar University Teaching Merit and Outstanding Teacher Awards.  She has premiered works by Dr. Frank Felice, Dr. Nick Rissman and Dr. Joe Alexander.

Dr. Ellis holds degrees from Illinois Wesleyan University (BME), Bowling Green State University (MM), and The Ohio State University (DMA). She has studied with David Peck (Houston Symphony), Jim Pyne (OSU), John Mohler (UM), Edward Marks (BGSU), John Mc Grosso (IWU) and Ken Stein. Summer Music Studies: Stanley Hasty, Charles Neidich, and Ron de Kant.
