Through two U.S. Department of Education grants we developed multimedia CD-ROMs for Mexican-American deaf children to help them learn.
Reading skills including vocabulary and comprehension
American Sign Language and English grammar
Mexican-American culture with folktales and animal stories
Math skills to solve math word problems over six math grades of difficulty using multicultural names, stories and themes.
While our project aimed specifically at Mexican-American deaf children who use American Sign Language (ASL), we translated our materials into Spanish to those ESL children and adults learning English as a second language. We describe our multimedia projects below.
The 10 CD-ROMs operate on IBM or PC compatible computers only. The CDs self-install and walk the user through the installation. To play ASL movies, Windows95 or above must install Intel drivers which are contained on the CD-ROMs. See CDs for full installation directions.
