The Faculty, Staff, and Friends of the Department of Chemistry and Physics held an informal dinner party for Dr. Hugh Akers and his family in honor of his long service to Lamar University.  The party was held Friday, February 23, 2001.  Dr. Akers is currently on leave from the University and is spending quality time with his wife Becky, his children and his new granddaughter.  Dr. Akers was presented with a gift certificate for plants so that he can continue to develop the flora at his hand built second home in Sour Lake, Texas.  If you would like to send your greetings to Dr. Akers, we would certainly be pleased to forward those to him.
