PRE-MEDICAL & PRE-DENTAL

Suggested Program of Study

NOTE: Pre-Medical and Pre-Dental programs do not lead to a degree.  This program is only meant to meet medical and dental schools' prerequisite course requirements.  To be most competetive for admission to a student's professional program of choice, the student should choose a Bachelor's degree program that is offered at Lamar University.   Commonly a Biology or Chemistry degree is sought, however a degree in any area is acceptable to most professional programs.

During the Third & Fourth Years

Pre-medical students should take the appropriate courses to satisfy the requirements for a Bachelor degree in a field of their choice.  They should begin application procedures at the end of the third year (see pre-med advisor).
The Dental School at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston requires CHEM 4411.  This course is highly recommended by all other medical/dental colleges.  Pre-dental students should begin the application procedure at the end of their second year (see pre-dental advisor).

Remaining courses required for any Bachelor's degree must also be completed.

^Recommended for students seeking a Chemistry or Chemistry/Biology degree.
*Additional requirements listed for the student's Bachelor's degree program.
(1)Suggested AdvancedBiology courses BIOL 2420, 2476, 3440, 3470, and/or 4410.
